Locksmith in Greenbank, OntarioSecure the frame, not only the lock

Doors in Greenbank usually give at the frame long before the lock fails. A reinforced strike, longer screws into the stud and a properly set deadbolt do more than a new cylinder alone. We look at the whole door edge, then recommend the upgrade that actually raises the bar. Nearby, we also work in Marsh Hill, Saintfield and Victoria Corners.

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 53%Older homes

About 53% of homes in Scugog were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

Old brass keys wear thin, and a key that has bent for years finally lets go in a cold cylinder. In older housing stock this is a regular call, so the locksmith is ready to extract the piece, check the cylinder and cut a new key from the code.

  • 89%Mostly houses

Single-detached houses make up about 89% of homes in Scugog (2021 Census).

Where most homes are detached houses, each one has several exterior doors: front, side, back, garage entry, sometimes a walkout. Getting them all onto one key is the most requested job, and it usually takes a single visit.

Locksmith services

Services for home, business and vehicle

These are the services we bring to doors across Greenbank. Residential work covers lockouts, rekeying, lock replacement, deadbolts, smart locks and older hardware brought back to life. Commercial work covers storefront doors, exit devices, closers, master keys and safes. Vehicle key cutting rounds out the list when it is needed.

High security

High Security Locks

Controlling the keys is the part of high security that costs nothing to understand and everything to ignore. If anyone can copy your key at a kiosk, a strong cylinder is one photocopy from useless.

Set up a visit to your home in Greenbank

Lock work makes brass shavings, sawdust and small parts that roll under furniture. In Greenbank homes we lay a drop sheet, catch what falls, and vacuum before we go. The door gets wiped down, the old keys are handed back or taken away as you prefer, and the only sign we were there is a lock that turns without complaint.

How a visit goes

Losing a master key exposes every door it opened, and a commercial rekey brings that exposure back to zero. The locksmith first works out which level the missing key sat at: a single change key affects one or two cylinders, while a master reaches every lock in its group.

Drawing: a house seen from the street. The van pulls up, the garage door is opened for the work, then it closes level and the porch light comes on.
  1. 1 of 3

    Making the door safe first

The priority is a door that closes and locks tonight. We assess the frame, the strike and the lock, and secure whatever was forced so you can stop worrying about the opening.

  2. 2 of 3

    Sorting permanent from temporary

Some damage needs a proper repair later; some can be fixed on the spot. We separate the two clearly and explain what a lasting fix involves without pushing you into it.

  3. 3 of 3

    Rekeying or replacing

If keys were taken or the lock was compromised, we rekey or replace before leaving. You end the visit with a door that locks and keys that only you hold.

Your questions, our answers

What is a restricted keyway and is it worth having for a business?

A restricted or patented keyway is one whose blanks are supplied only through the manufacturer's authorised channels, so duplication is controlled rather than available at an ordinary counter, though the exact authorisation step varies by program and is not always a signed letter. For a company with staff turnover, cleaners and contractors, it means the keys in circulation are far easier to track. It can be introduced during a rekey, on the exterior doors only or across the whole premises, and works alongside a key register.

One of my locks is stiff and worn. Can it still be rekeyed?

Often the stiffness is grit, old oil and tired springs rather than real wear, and those are handled while the cylinder is on the bench: the plug is cleaned, new springs go in with the new pins, and a dry lubricant finishes it. If the plug has worn oval or the housing is damaged, the locksmith shows you and suggests a replacement cylinder pinned to the same key, rather than fresh pins in a lock that will keep dragging.

What happens during the visit, step by step?

The locksmith looks at the door, frame, glass and hinges, measures the bore and backset, and confirms the hardware and key plan with you. The door is bored or the old lock removed, the bolt is set to the backset, and the cylinder and thumb-turn are assembled. The strike position is marked from the bolt itself, the pocket bored, and a reinforced strike fastened into the framing. Everything is tested open and closed, keys are cut and tried, and the area is vacuumed.

Can the same visit replace locks on more than one door, or does each door need its own appointment?

One visit usually covers every door on the job. The locksmith brings a range of cylinders and strikes, measures each door's backset and bore, and works through the list in order, front entrance first if a key change matters most there. Having a rough list ready, which doors, and whether they should end up on one key or several, lets the locksmith plan hardware before arriving rather than working it out door by door on site.

Is a mechanical dial or an electronic keypad the better choice for a business safe?

Each suits a different way of working. A mechanical dial has no battery to fail and a long service life, but only ever holds one combination at a time. An electronic keypad allows separate codes for different staff and an audit trail on some models, at the cost of needing battery changes. Either can be fitted with a genuinely high security rating; the choice usually comes down to how many people need independent access.
