Locksmith in Scugog, OntarioAccess controlfor real buildings.

Fobs, keypads and card readers are only worthwhile when the doors, closers and wiring behind them are sound. We design small access systems for offices, clinics and multi-unit buildings, install them cleanly, and hand over a system your staff can actually manage.

From the shop

Careful work on every kind of lock.

A gate, a shed, a detached garage, a mailbox at the end of the drive: outdoor hardware lives a harder life than anything on the house. Rain gets in, frost locks it up, and sun fades the finish. We choose cylinders and padlocks built for the weather, mount them so water drains rather than pools, and key them to match the house where that makes sense.

Locksmith services

Services for home, business and vehicle

Below are the jobs we handle most often. For each one you will find what it fixes, how a visit usually goes and what information helps us arrive with the right parts. If two services sound alike, call and we will explain the difference in a sentence.

Lockout Services

A stranger's boot print on your door changes how a house feels. Burglary damage repair is partly about hardware and partly about that feeling: fixing the frame, fitting a stronger strike, replacing the lock and making sure nothing about the entrance still looks vulnerable.

Change or rekey

Change or Rekey Locks

The back door is often the weakest one on the house, with a hollow slab, a short bolt and a strike held by two small screws. Residential upgrades usually begin there, and this section explains what changes and why.

  1. A silver-colored deadbolt set in clear packaging with two keys resting on the countertop in front. — Lock Rekeying, Scugog
Lock RekeyingEvery copy of your house key seems to work a little differently. One needs a jiggle, another sticks halfway, and the original wore down years ago.
  2. Close view of a satin-nickel deadbolt thumbturn and edge faceplate on a painted timber door. — Deadbolt Installation, Scugog
Deadbolt InstallationSomeone tried the door last winter. The frame took it, but the strike plate is bent, one screw hole is stripped, and the bolt sits in the pocket at a slight angle.
  3. Detached satin-nickel lever hardware, tubular latch and strike plate on a wooden workbench. — Lock Replacement & Upgrade, Scugog
Lock Replacement & UpgradeThe century home's original mortise lock takes a key the size of a spoon, sticks in humid weather and has worn its strike to a groove. You want a lock that works every day without giving up the old door.
  4. Closed mortise lock case with spindle opening, keyhole, latch and deadbolt on a wooden workbench. — Vintage Mortise Lock Service, Scugog
Vintage Mortise Lock ServiceThe old skeleton key still fits the keyhole, but it now needs a jiggle, a lean on the door and a little luck before the bolt moves. Last week it took three tries.
  5. Person holding a black door-handle assembly and a latch beside a glazed door with exposed lock openings. — Smart Lock Installation, Scugog
Smart Lock InstallationYour mother still lives on her own, and the personal support worker, the pharmacy delivery and two siblings all need to get in on different days. Cutting keys for everyone feels wrong; a code for each person, with a…
  6. Detached rim gate lock and separate box keeper on an outdoor workbench. — Gate & Building Entry Locks, Scugog
Gate & Building Entry LocksA neighbour mentions, in passing, that the key from three tenants ago still lets him into the building's front door. Nobody changed it after he moved out, and now the property manager wants to know exactly how many keys…
  7. Two loose cam locks and a retaining clip resting below an open metal mailbox compartment. — Mailbox Lock Replacement, Scugog
Mailbox Lock ReplacementThe property manager mentioned that half the compartments in the lobby's mailbox panel are original to the building and are starting to fail one by one, key by key, as tenants turn over year after year.

Commercial

Commercial Locks

Every commercial door should do three things: open for the right people, stay shut for everyone else, and let people out in a hurry without a key. The services in this group serve those three, and we will say which door falls short on which one.

Lock Rekeying

One key for the front door, another for the back, a third for the side door into the garage, and a fourth for the shed. You stand on the step every evening flipping through them in the dark, trying each one until something turns.

Which fix fits?

The shop's back door only latches if someone slams it.The usual fix

UsuallyAdjust the closer and realign the strike.

WhyUsually the closer is out of adjustment or the strike has drifted; both are set, not replaced.

The fire exit alarm sounds every time staff use that door. The usual fix

UsuallyService the exit device and rethink the routine.

WhyExit alarms are meant to sound; if staff need that door daily, an arrangement that still lets everyone leave freely is found.

The storefront lock is worn and the key barely catches. The usual fix

UsuallyReplace the cylinder with a commercial-grade one.

WhyStorefront cylinders take a beating; a heavier grade is built for that traffic.

The old mortise lock on the front door of the house turns the key halfway and stops with a dull clunk. The usual fix

UsuallySeized & Jammed Lock Opening

WhyMany jammed locks are not lock problems at all.

The lawyer's envelope held two keys for the new house. The usual fix

UsuallyLost Keys — Same-Visit Rekey

WhyWhen a key disappears, cutting yourself another copy solves the wrong half of the problem.

One key for the front door, another for the back, a third for the side door into the garage, and a fourth for the shed. The usual fix

UsuallyLock Rekeying

WhyMoving into a home is the moment most people first hear about rekeying, and it is the most sensible time to do it.

How a visit goes

Losing a master key exposes every door it opened, and a commercial rekey brings that exposure back to zero. The locksmith first works out which level the missing key sat at: a single change key affects one or two cylinders, while a master reaches every lock in its group.

Drawing: a house seen from the street. The van pulls up, the garage door is opened for the work, then it closes level and the porch light comes on.
  1. 1 of 3

    Making the door safe first

The priority is a door that closes and locks tonight. We assess the frame, the strike and the lock, and secure whatever was forced so you can stop worrying about the opening.

  2. 2 of 3

    Sorting permanent from temporary

Some damage needs a proper repair later; some can be fixed on the spot. We separate the two clearly and explain what a lasting fix involves without pushing you into it.

  3. 3 of 3

    Rekeying or replacing

If keys were taken or the lock was compromised, we rekey or replace before leaving. You end the visit with a door that locks and keys that only you hold.

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 53%Older homes

About 53% of homes in Scugog were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

In neighbourhoods of established homes, keys have often been copied many times over many owners. Rekeying every exterior door to one fresh key is the common first job, and it works on old cylinders just as well as on new ones.

  • 89%Mostly houses

Single-detached houses make up about 89% of homes in Scugog (2021 Census).

Garage entry doors on detached houses are often the household's real front door, used more than the formal entry. They deserve the same quality of lock, and keying them alike with the house means one key does the whole daily routine.

What is a keying chart and why does it matter afterwards?

A keying chart is a plain list of every opening, the key group that operates it, the code stamped on those keys and the number issued. Months later it lets you answer exactly which doors a missing key opened, and it lets a locksmith add a new door to the system without changing anything else. Keep it with the key register, somewhere locked, with a copy off site.

What is the difference between rekeying a business and replacing its locks?

Rekeying keeps every lock on the door and changes only the pins inside the cylinder, so a new key works and the old ones stop. Replacing swaps the hardware itself. Commercial cylinders are made to be repinned many times, so rekeying suits any lock in sound condition and leaves the levers, trim and door untouched. Replacement is chosen door by door for cylinders that are worn, corroded or too light for what they protect.

We are a landlord with a tenant leaving. When should the unit be rekeyed?

Between tenants is the ideal moment: the departing tenant has handed back their keys, the new one has not yet received any, and the unit is empty for the work. The incoming tenant then starts on keys nobody else has held, and the landlord's own master or emergency key is set up at the same time. Where a lease has ended in dispute, the locksmith asks to see the paperwork before changing locks on a unit that still holds a tenant's goods.

What information helps before the visit?

A photo of each door's lock from inside and outside, the type of door, whether there is glass nearby and roughly how many keys are in circulation. For a business, a sketch of the doors and who needs to reach each area saves a great deal of time. Mention any door that sticks, has been forced or has a closer or push bar on it. With that, the locksmith arrives with the right formats and a plan to discuss.
