Locksmith services

Services for home, business and vehicle

Homes and businesses in Seagrave tend to need the same handful of things from a locksmith, so that is how the list is arranged: emergency openings, changing or rekeying locks, stronger hardware for people who want it, commercial doors and access, and safes. Car keys sit at the end for the households that need them.

High security

High Security Locks

Controlling the keys is the part of high security that costs nothing to understand and everything to ignore. If anyone can copy your key at a kiosk, a strong cylinder is one photocopy from useless.

For businesses in Seagrave we keep records. Which cylinders were pinned to which key, how many keys were cut, which doors carry a master, when the closers were last adjusted. That paperwork lands in your inbox after the visit so the next staff change or the next audit is a matter of reading a page rather than calling around.

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 53%Older homes

About 53% of homes in Scugog were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

Older homes tend to have had many hands on their doors: owners, tenants, tradespeople, family. A locksmith visiting such a house pays attention to who holds keys now, and rekeying or a keyed-alike set often matters more than any new hardware.

  • 89%Mostly houses

Single-detached houses make up about 89% of homes in Scugog (2021 Census).

Families in houses hand keys to children, cleaners, dog walkers and neighbours. A locksmith can set up a keypad on the side door for the household and keep the front door on a conventional key, so access matches how the family actually comes and goes.

Lock Rekeying

Three months of renovation are finally done. The kitchen looks wonderful, and along the way a general contractor, a tile installer, a plumber and an electrician each carried a key to your front door at one point or another.

Lock Rekeying

Your questions, our answers

(289) 653-1448

One of my locks is stiff and worn. Can it still be rekeyed?

Often the stiffness is grit, old oil and tired springs rather than real wear, and those are handled while the cylinder is on the bench: the plug is cleaned, new springs go in with the new pins, and a dry lubricant finishes it. If the plug has worn oval or the housing is damaged, the locksmith shows you and suggests a replacement cylinder pinned to the same key, rather than fresh pins in a lock that will keep dragging.

How should I look after the lock once it is serviced?

A drop of the right lock oil into the latch and bolt once a year is plenty. If the lock has a pin-tumbler cylinder, use whatever lubricant that cylinder's maker specifies, since some take a dry graphite or PTFE product and others a specified liquid one. Try the latch and deadbolt each spring and fall; if the bolt starts to scrape, the strike wants a small adjustment before anything is strained. Keep bit keys out of a pocket where they bend.

I just moved in and have no key at all. Can you still help?

Yes, and it is a common reason for this visit. Ownership or a lease showing the address, plus photo identification, is generally enough to confirm the compartment is yours to change. The old lock is opened without a key using the same techniques used elsewhere, then swapped for a new one, so whoever held the previous key no longer has any use for it.

Is a mechanical dial or an electronic keypad the better choice for a business safe?

Each suits a different way of working. A mechanical dial has no battery to fail and a long service life, but only ever holds one combination at a time. An electronic keypad allows separate codes for different staff and an audit trail on some models, at the cost of needing battery changes. Either can be fitted with a genuinely high security rating; the choice usually comes down to how many people need independent access.

Can all my doors be on one key?

Yes, and most homes ask for exactly that. Every exterior cylinder is pinned to the same combination so one controlled key opens the front, back, side and garage entry. A gate or shed padlock on the same keyway can join it. For businesses, the same keyway can carry a small master system where staff keys open only their areas and a manager key opens everything. The keying plan is agreed before any pinning is done.
